Find out how to set up your car or charging point.
We support various brands with a vehicle integration (a connection to your vehicle) and almost any vehicle through a compatible smart charger (if we are allowed to connect to that). For a complete and up-to-date list, please see the table at the bottom of our "Support" page.
Please contact us if you'd like to receive a recommendation that is suitable for you which also works in conjunction with Stekker.app.
If we have an integration with your vehicle, you can connect the vehicle to Stekker.app and still smart charge. See in the question below if the integration for your vehicle is available.
If you install the app you will be asked a few questions about your vehicle most are about your vehicle. You may not need a special charge point if we have an integration for your vehicle. If you do need a special charger, we will indicate this in the app and you can contact us for options that we recommend. If you already have a charger, it needs to be internet connected and has a few other requirements. It also depends on the data- or service contract that came with the charger whether you convert it to work with our our solution.
Absolutely. You can still use your original app that comes with your vehicle. Stekker.app has its own integration that works vehicles from different carmakers. It can also integrate with the charging station (or both). These connections all work at the same time. If you do wish to stop or start charging your car remotely, it could happen that Stekker.app reverts this, if that is the way to meet your charging preference indicated in Stekker.app. In that case, it's better to disable the smart charging session first, and then start/stop charging from the "vehicle app".
It depends on your situation. If you contact us, we can connect you to a partner that can supply and install the charging equipment that works for your EV and that works with Stekker.app. This can be a state of the art charging solution that factors in other loads and solar at your grid connection.
Note: This recommendation is specific to people in the Netherlands. Below is quite a technical explanation, however, you can ask for a quote from one of our installation partners, and they will assess your situation and provide you with the optimal solution. In that case, you don't need to understand all of the following. It is common to have 1 or 3 phase connection. You can recognize three phase by looking at the lower section of your distribution panel. Here you see either 3 side-by-side switches or round ceramic fuses. If it only has a single fuse or switch, you have 1 phase. It's optimal to have 3 phase for EV charging if your EV supports 3-phase. Your local utility (Enexis, Liander, Stedin, etc.) can upgrade this to 3-phase upon your request, some of your distribution panel needs to be re-wired, but this is something an electrician knows how to do. With 3 phase and 25 Amps fuses, you'll have a limit of 17 kW (230V * 3 phase * 25 A) if all phases are used equally. In reality there's some imbalance. If you have a vehicle that only charges single phase or you connect a single phase charger, the duration of charging can be many hours if you have 25A fuses. If you wish to shorten this, asking for an increase to 35 Amps or 80 Amps (instead of 25A) is an option. 80 Amps is not commonly seen in residential environments, but many businesses do have this. It's valuable if the charger measures the net consumption at the grid consumption point, since this will avoid tripping any fuses because of an excessive power draw (beyond what the fuses allow). Most EV chargers, including the Alfen Eve that we commonly recommend, are capable of reading the net consumption for each individual phase and adjust the maximum allowed charging current accordingly. Smart charging by Stekker.app will limit the power further, but will not interfere with this local smart charging. Stekker.app will figure out what the maximum charging speed is for the combination of your vehicle and charger, including the available phases.
E-Flux is a charge point operator (CPO) that installs smart chargers that can connect with Stekker. Do you have a charge point from E-Flux?
See this step-by-step guide on how to connect it with Stekker.
